Our Top 5 Take-Aways from the 2019 AMS Conference
We just returned from attending the American Montessori Society's annual conference in Washington, D.C. We're excited to share our top 5 take-aways.
Toddler Materials
We were so excited to see the enthusiastic response to our toddler materials, especially our Toddler Emotions set. We aim to provide what teachers need most, and we’re grateful to hear our toddler works are filling a need.
Simone Davies – The Montessori Toddler
Speaking of toddlers, we love Simone Davies’ new book, The Montessori Toddler, which offers a great way with communicate to parents about the Montessori pedagogy. We were inspired to share and display her book in our booth, and we’ll be promoting and selling it at an upcoming early childhood conference we're attending in California.
Daniel Goleman - Emotional Intelligence
In Goleman’s inspiring keynote address he spoke of ways to give children a framework for understanding emotions. With our own children, we’ve been talking about our emotions by identifying when we feel like a “lion” versus a “kitten” to help them move through big emotions and settle into a calmer state of mind.
Storage Stars
We were delighted to discover other vendors making some really fun, functional and economical storage solutions for our three-part cards.
Thanks for sharing:
- Raife Cebecis from the International Montessori Schools shared her continent folders;
- we used envelope pouches from Montessori Materials by Request;
- and, clear acrylic containers from Montessori Containers.
A Shout Out for Sprout
In reaffirmation of the amazing support the Montessori community provides, our fellow vendor, Clark at Sprout, saved the day when we lost some shelving units during shipment to the conference. Thank you, Clark, for providing us with a shelf and the kind assistance on which this community is built.
